Zohran Mamdani: Socialist, Millennial, Record-Breaker.
Mamdani doesn't want your money.

In a video posted earlier today on his official Instagram, Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has urged NYC residents to stop sending him money. Mamdani’s campaign has reached the maximum amount of matching donations ($8 million) they’re allowed to spend in the race, as per New York City’s Campaign Finance Board.
In the video, Mamdani thanks his close to 18,000 donors (the highest in the race), and urges people to donate something other than money now; their time.
With more than 7,000 boots on the ground, Mamdani’s reach appears ever-growing. With two months left in the campaign towards the primaries, Mamdani’s momentum seems to be driven by word of mouth, and young enthusiasm.
In the last 2-month donation period report which concluded on March 13. Mamdani’s campaign reported $849,000 from more than 13,000 individual donors, while Cuomo reported $1.5 million from 2,700 donors. This checks out with socialist campaigns of the past, with Bernie Sanders’ average donation for his 2016 presidential campaign being $27 and Alejandra Ocasio-Cortez’ current campaign’s average donation being $14.
According to The Gothamist, in the last race, all top mayoral candidates were still fundraising well into June 2021.
Mamdani’s record-breaking fundraising numbers and growing support in volunteers showcases the city’s enthusiasm towards socialist policies like freezing rent for rent-stabilized tenants, providing free public bus service, no cost childcare, raising the minimum wage to $30/hr by 2030, and cracking down on bad landlords.
The 2025 NYC Mayoral Election will be held on November 4, 2025 while the Primaries will be held on June 24, 2025 (Early voting starts June 14)
